The Paper Discovery Center, home of the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame, is located at 425 West Water Street, near downtown Appleton. We are in the historic Atlas Mill Building along the north bank of the Fox River between the Memorial Drive Bridge and the Skyline Bridge in the old industrial flats.

Audio Tour

Welcome to this mini audio tour of the Paper Discovery Center, home of the Paper Industry International Hall of Fame. This tour is designed to enhance your discovery of the world of paper. Each sound clip is 1 – 3 minutes in length and gives a brief glimpse of some of the exhibits waiting to be explored at the Paper Discovery Center. Audio clips are available throughout the Paper Discovery Center and can be accessed with a cell phone to enhance your visit. These are just a few.

#1 (Entrance):
Hear about the historical roots of the building housing the Paper Discovery Center and learn about some of the unique architectural features.

#2. (Paper Journey):
Discover the history of paper as conceptualized by local artist, Tom Grade. This piece of art is beautiful and informative.

#3. (Art):
Hear about some of the Art on display within the Paper Discovery Center and learn the connection with paper.

#4. (Tissue Machine):
Learn about some of the features unique to a tissue paper machine. Then come to the Paper Discovery Center to see our model tissue machines.

#6. (The River):
The Fox River is the reason so many mills were built in this area. Learn what makes the Fox River so uniquely important. Then come and see the historic section of the Fox River right outside our windows.

#7. & #8. (Jordan Refiner):
A Jordan refiner is a piece of equipment that improved the process of pulping wood to make paper. Hear about the Jordan Refiner on display outside the Paper Discovery Center.

#9. (Cartiere Burgo Newsprint Machine):
Listen to the story of an amazing paper machine that was built in Wisconsin, used in Italy, and why it was so amazing. Then come in and see the scale model on display at the Paper Discovery Center.
