To celebrate Earth Day, we're bringing back our much-loved Paper Night Out program and EVERYONE is invited! Thanks to the Purdy Family Foundation and Arnold Grummer's Papermaking LLC, this event will feature the GRAND OPENING of our brand new papermaking space on our river level!
In 2020, the Paper Discovery Center is kicking off the Year of Sustainability and in this workshop we'll be celebrating the ART of making something NEW out of something old. Each guest will make three one-of-a-kind pieces of handmade paper, out of recycled paper fibers including office paper, junk mail, gum wrappers, receipts, greeting cards, magazines....love letters...The only limit is your imagination! Bring whatever you have and want to repurpose. Light snacks and refreshments will be served—all materials provided.

Our younger students will get the low down on germs and check to see how well they wash their hands. The "olders" will learn how to use the scientific method to set up an experiment to determine the germiest places in the PDC. All ages will be involved in making a spring piece of paper.

Home school students and their chaperones are invited to attend our first Home School Thursday event on December 5, 2019.
Color blending activities for the 4-7-year-olds will involve learning primary colors and how to blend to make more interesting colors.
The 8-11-year-olds will hypothesize what types of paper are the strongest and then test the hypothesis using a Mullen’s Paper Strength apparatus.

Crayon Resist - Mandalas
Mandalas use radial balance to calm and please the eye. Using crayons and a watercolor wash technique, participants will have the opportunity to fashion their very own mandala masterpiece. The only limit is your imagination!

The kindness rock movement has been gathering steam for several years and we want to keep it going! Using acrylic paint and a sponging technique, we’ll be painting “galaxy” rocks to keep or hide around the Fox Valley! Join us and use your creativity on this random act of kindness!

Painting with Bubbles - Bursting with Color
Your paintings will be bursting with color! (See what we did there??) Using bubbles as the vehicle, we’ll be painting our group project with vibrant, bubbly color. Come join us for this unique opportunity and let your creativity flow!

This fun and informative week-long class will walk participants through making paper by hand with a variety of items, printing on paper using selecting fonts, and then binding the pieces into a book.
